Ask Extension

Ask Extension is a tool which members of our local communities can use to ask questions through an online form. Once a question is submitted, a team of question wranglers from MSU Extension re-assign their question to experts from Michigan State (most often MSU Extension staff). We receive questions ranging from food safety, agriculture and gardening, to natural resources questions relating to frogs and snakes. In 2021, MSU Extension staff have answered 7,470 questions - thank you to all of our MSU Extension experts!

Reassigning a Question to Another Expert

If a question is assigned to you that is not in your area of expertise, you may assign it to an MSU Extension question wrangler or another colleague. Watch this video to learn how!

Ask Extension Profile: How to Set your Away Status and Update Your Tags

You can modify your Profile settings to mark yourself as "away" so you don't receive questions while out on vacation. In the profile settings you can also set-up your tags which are very important in order for you to receive questions relevant to your expertise!

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How do I login to Ask Extension?
    Go to https://ask2.extension.org/ and login with your email and password. If you do not have an account email online@msue.msu.edu.
  2. How do I re-assign questions that I can't answer?
    Select the Reassign button on the right side of the screen and assign it to a colleague or to the individual show assigned the question to you.
  3. Can I create a group for my team?
    Email online@msue.msu.edu for assistance.
